The framework

The Shepherd Method™

A teaching framework built on four pillars — designed to transform certified instructors into confident educators through structured observation, application, and refinement. This method ensures you are not simply learning exercises — you are learning how to think and act like a Pilates teacher.

01 Observe

Develop the ability to see movement clearly — understanding intention, alignment, and compensation patterns in real time. Your eye is your most powerful teaching tool.

02 Build

Translate what you see into intelligent programming decisions, sequencing, and progression logic. Stop guessing. Start designing with purpose.

03 Teach

Apply the work through cueing, correction, and real-time instruction across apparatus and mat. This is where knowledge becomes skill.

04 Refine

Receive feedback, reflect, and adjust your teaching approach to build consistency and confidence. Mastery is found in refinement — not reinvention.

What you will learn

Classical mat and reformer order
How to cue with clarity and precision
Small apparatus integration and progression
What to observe in the body as a teacher
Anatomy and movement physics applied to Pilates
How to design and structure private sessions
How to adapt programming for different bodies
The why behind the method — not just choreography

How the mentorship works

Monthly In-Person Intensive Weekends

One weekend per month — Friday evening and Saturday. Four hours per day. This is where the deep work happens.

  • Hands-on apparatus training — Reformer, Cadillac, small apparatus
  • Real-time teaching practice with correction and coaching
  • Structured observation and movement analysis
Applied Virtual Learning

Biweekly guided virtual sessions covering anatomy, teaching theory, and programming breakdown — with select months focused on NPCP exam preparation.

  • Anatomy and movement physics in depth
  • Teaching theory and methodology
  • National Pilates Study Guide review
  • One full practice test included
Applied Homework System

Between sessions, students complete structured assignments to ensure learning is continuously applied — not passive.

  • Teaching observation and analysis
  • Programming private sessions
  • Recorded teaching practice
  • Movement and cueing breakdowns
